Next Big Adventure

Description:

NOAA Barrow Atmospheric Baseline Observatory

My next summer adventure is visiting different NOAA facilities located throughout Alaska. Our travels will take us from Anchorage to Barrow. This adventure was originally planned for the summer of 2020. However, COVID had other ideas.

To give you a little history, the largest Weather Forecast Office (WFO) in the U.S. is in Anchorage, and the facility also includes a River Forecast Center, the Alaska Aviation Weather Unit, and their Alaska Sea Ice Program. There is a local office of the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) in Anchorage, as well. And just up the street in Palmer is the National Tsunami Warning Center.

There is so much to do, so many people to meet and so much to see. We are very excited about this adventure, and I hope you follow along! See you soon.
