The first phase of our newest adventure is complete. Spent the last few months studying the textbook, taking quizzes, practicing in the pool, taking the final written exam and finally the four open water dives required to become officially SSI Open Water Diver Certified.
For the open water dives, we decided to travel to Key Largo, Florida and dive at the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. More specifically, Sand Island and Winch Hole on Molasses Reef. The water was beautiful. Over the course of the two days, we saw just about everything imaginable, except sharks.
Wish to send a special thanks to the folks at Scuba Centers of Michigan for all their help in making this dream a reality. The entire staff was amazing to include Matt, who was our personal instructor. Also wish to give a shout out to Tanya, our open water test proctor from Scuba Fun.
I must say, that it takes some time, commitment and energy… However, an amazing journey that I hope everyone takes the time to learn and experience.
Will keep you updated as our underwater journey continues…
The first three dives were all business. So was most of the fourth. Getting tested on all of the things we had learned. On the forth dive, there were a few opportunities for me to use the GoPro Hero5, so that I could record these moments that will become lifetime memories for the both of us.
As we were wrapping up the fourth and final dive, was able to get some video of us working our way to the surface, (aka the Ascent). Sea life was abundant. Clarity was excellent. Great dive.
During a brief moment, I was able to take a selfie video. Now that we are certified, I am excited about the great video footage we will be able to take in the future.
